Thought I would share this with all of you. If you have a special mention then please feel free to start a topic with your story of help or an Operator that has gone out of their way to help you or someone else.
I just decided to get back into Amateur Radio after a 6 year Hiatus. First on my agenda was looking for some tower to get something into the air. I spent many days while traveling looking for tower that might not be being used at homes. After passing a place not far from me I noted a tower with a wire antenna on it. One day while out on an errand with the wife, and knowing it to be a possible Ham living there I knocked on the door.
After talking with the gentleman that lived there and asking him to keep an ear out for some reasonably priced tower to get me started, I was about to leave when he told me to wait and motioned for me to follow him up the slight hill to where his tower (about 40 footer) was located. Laying in the grass were 4 sections of Rohn 25 tower. He told me I was welcome to those,
After stammering and asking how much, and then realizing he was serious for me to just take them as a gesture from one ham to another, I left there gratefully thanking him. He also led me around back and pulled out an old Alliant HD-73 rotor that had been laying in a plastic storage container that had about 2-3 inches of water in it and told me if I could make it work that I was welcome to it and the control box.
Talk about a happy camper!! I nearly danced back to the Durango to tell the wife. This person had never met me before, but after we had talked for a bit and exchanged ideas about Amateur Radio and how it was always great to meet other nice Hams, he helps set me up with a tower and possibly a rotor.
So I am taking a moment and thanking him by posting this so all know that there are those out there that go above and beyond the calling to see others enjoy the hobby either for the first time, or to get back into it.
I hope he one day reads this. Thanks John KA8OJB for being the generous person you are. I could never thank you enough for your contribution.
The Rotor works fine, and the tower will go up in the near future!
