Alabama Meat Processors (Ripoff)

Posted by: Windwalker @ 9:36 am November 24, 2011 in General Ramblings

Alabama Meat Processors
2213 West Boulevard, Montgomery, AL 36108-3825

Took a 350+lbs Pig/Hog to this place. We were newbies to processing.

I should have known something was strange when we pulled up to a building where the door was open but the lights were off in the office. There was a man sitting there in the dark that hollered “come on in and turn on the light” Hmmm. It smelled like something dead in the office, but being a newbie figured it was a slaughter place so may be normal.

They had told us on the phone that they smoked the meat, they did bacon, and souse. Upon arrival after having the pig delivered, they told us they didn’t do bacon, or souse, or smoke anything.

They were to call us in about 4 days to let us know it was ready. On the 8th day we called them. They said it dressed out at 240lbs. The wife picked up the meat which totaled only 137lbs counting the bones, we were charged $120 for this!? If you subtract the 15lbs of bones then we only got about 122lbs of meat.

When I called by phone to ask where the rest of the pig was, they said it only dressed out at 220lbs.

If the meat had been done days ago and was in their freezer, then why was it not frozen when we picked it up? Different pig maybe?

I asked where was the feet, fat, and other parts like Head that we had asked about. He said, “Well that stuffs in the trash, you have to ask for it, The state don’t want you having it”. I told him the wife had requested that when on the phone with them 8 days ago.

If your a newbie to this, I would steer clear of them. Even if your someone that has meat processed, I would think before patronizing someone that takes advantage of customers that are new to the process.

Buyer of services at this place beware.

I would not recommend them to anyone I know.

Are our pictures fading?

Posted by: Windwalker @ 10:01 am November 17, 2011 in General Ramblings

I was sitting here wondering the other evening, trying to remember the last time that I took pictures and had them developed and in my hands, I think it was about 1999. Since then I went digital.

They are now mostly kept on a computer, or disc and looked at once in a while, but for the most part they are just shuttered away. It’s too much trouble to go get that disc and put it in the player. Gone are the fun times of pulling out the boxes or albums and sharing memories with one another as we pass the pictures around.

Many pictures are lost from crashes, bad backups, or media failing. However sitting in my closet I have albums and boxes of pictures that have survived decades.

Will we one day wake up and realize that all our life has been digitized and slowly lost?

I have a 35mm camera, bu there are fewer and fewer places for development now. I think I will start trying to at least have my photos printed from time to time.

I may even go back to real film some. Digital is great for seeing what you have taken at that moment, but there is just something about film that can’t be touched. Especially the old Black and White pictures from the past.

What are your thoughts.

Stop Facebook Syncing with Droid x Droid 2 contacts.

Posted by: Windwalker @ 10:12 pm September 16, 2011 in Tech Talk

Nothing more obnoxious than Facebook doing things you don’t want it to. Seems that one of the latest updates really set things so you have no option to “Not Sync” with your contacts.

Nothing like 400+ people from school and life in your contacts list that you haven’t talked to in years, to scroll through to find what you want.

Instructions are not clear, if non existent. I finally realized how to stop the syncing.

Go to Settings>Accounts> and delete the Facebook Account if you have it there. Apparently you don’t need the Facebook Account in the Accounts section to access your Facebook anyway. Having the Facebook Account allows Facebook to sync without having to ask permission with your contact list.

You will notice if you go to Settings>Accounts> and select say your Twitter account you will see a setting to turn off “sync”. You won’t find this on Facebook. Cute huh!
